Sessional hours in criminology at Liverpool John Moores

The Criminology group at Liverpool John Moores University are seeking to recruit a member of sessional staff to deliver a module on Policing at level 2. The module will commence in September 2010 and will run until December 2010. In Level 1 the ‘Inside the Criminal Justice System’ module provides students with an introduction to the police and policing in Britain. This second level option module further examines contemporary policing encouraging students to critically engage with the subject area. The module covers: historical developments of the activity of policing in England and Wales; methods of studying the police, the main organisational forms of contemporary policing; the roles and functions of the police, the main controversies surrounding the control and accountability of the police and the impact of changing political and cultural terrains on police work.

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering the modules, teaching and marking. They will report directly to the Head of Criminology. Candidates must have a minimum of a Masters in Criminology or a related subject. However, we will consider applications from candidates who are near to completing a PhD in a related area.  You should also have experience of teaching and marking in HE and will need to evidence knowledge of the theoretical, academic and policy debates in the area.
