The latest edition of Youth Justice News – which reports primarily on youth justice issues in England and Wales reveals that in the 11 months from January to November 2010, 11 young people who were under the supervision of Youth Offending Teams or in custody died. Seven of these deaths were in the community and the remaining four of young people in custody, who died by suicide. The statistics released following a ‘freedom of information’ request to the Youth Justice Board (YJB) also outline that there were 98 attempted suicides among this category of young people.
